The Science Behind SlimWeight Patch

SlimWeight Patch is a diet product which was originally sold in the UK and is now being aggressively marketed in the US. Many of the marketing materials still contain testimonials from Brits using terms for weight like “stone” (14 pounds). SlimWeight Patch boasts results of up to 24 pounds of weight loss in one month, but the clinical proof of this is mysteriously absent. Yes, the science that is presented to support the marketing for SlimWeight Patch is what you might call “pseudoscience” for two very important reasons.
1. Transdermal Ingredient Delivery - The main selling point for SlimWeight Patch is that you don’t have to take a pill to get the benefit of weight loss ingredients. However, not everything which can be plastered to your skin will be absorbed by it. It has been shown that chemicals like caffeine can be absorbed fairly readily and there is reason to believe that some hydroxycitric acid may be absorbed (from garcinia cambogia), but it is unclear how much, if any, of the other ingredients may be absorbed.
The full formula for SlimWeight Patch is as follows, with active chemicals in parentheses):
- Bladderwrack (iodine, mannitol, algin)
- 5-HTP
- Guarana (Caffeine)
- Garcinia Cambogia (Hydroxycitric acid)
- Zinc Pyruvate
- DHEA
- Yerba Mate (Caffeine)
- Flaxseed Oil
- Lecithin
- L-Carnitine
- Zinc Citrate
Unfortunately, the company doesn’t give us any idea of how many milligrams are supposedly delivered in each patch, only that the patch itself has residues of these ingredients in it.
2. Clinical Studies and Dosage – Related to the skin absorption issue is the question of the studies that the company cites to back up its formula. In none of the references from the official SlimWeight Patch website is there any clinical study on the effects of these ingredients being absorbed through the skin. For caffeine and hydroxycitric acid, for instance, there are legitimate studies to show how they can help you lose weight, but only in proper dosage and there is no way that this patch can deliver the same dosage as used in the studies they cite.
SlimWeight Patch Side Effects
Though it is unclear how much can be absorbed, SlimWeight Path’s caffeine content may cause those who are sensitive to it to feel a little jittery. This probably isn’t anything to get worried about.
SlimWeight Patch Policies
One of the big redeeming qualities of the SlimWeight Patch is that it comes with a 180 day satisfaction guarantee. Granted, you’ll still be losing money on shipping especially since you have to ship the empty package back to them for a refund, but it’s definitely necessary to have a satisfaction guarantee on a product like this.
SlimWeight Patch Lowest Price
On the official website, you can buy one 30-day supply of SlimWeight Patch for $31.79.
Does SlimWeight Patch Work?
That’s a tricky question. There are a number of compensated testimonials out there from SlimWeight’s original UK marketing campaign that claim some fantastic results. At the same time, the company explains that you can expect to lose anywhere from 2 to 6 pounds per week while using SlimWeight Patch. As they don’t really qualify whether this can be done continuously, it’s hard to say what you can really expect to lose. Based on the science of transdermal dosing and the ingredients, you are likely to get some metabolic effect from the caffeine and HCA, and probably some water loss from bladderwrack. You may lose a few pounds as they say, but it is unlikely your $32 will result in noticeable fat loss.
