The Science Behind SliMax

SliMax, one of the flag-ship products from Slim Total, is an all-natural blend of herbs that are supposed to reduce your hunger and burn fat without irritation or an upset stomach.  The blend is pretty simple, containing only 500 mg total of 5 relatively common herbs:

  • Lotus Leaf – named as the only “fat burner” in the blend, this is an herb which is traditionally used to treat vomiting, diarrhea and other digestive issues.  Dosage has been recommended as between 6 and 12 grams. There is no clinical evidence to support its use in weight loss.
  • Tarragon – a commonly used herb in cooking, tarragon contains a compound responsible for its aroma, estragole, that may be linked to higher incidence of cancer.
  • Coix Lacryma – the seed from an asian grass species known in the English-speaking world as Job’s Tears.  It is mainly used as a typical grain in Asia, though the makers of SliMax cite its being a diuretic.  Diuretics don’t actually help you lose weight.
  • Psyllium Husk – a natural source of insoluble fiber which may be used in colon cleansers.
  • Bamboo shoots – a common, fibrous ingredient in many asian dishes.

To be honest, there is hardly anything here that could significantly help with weight loss. The company cites the fiber as promoting satiety, but at a dose of 500 mg, there just can’t be enough to actually cause that effect.

SliMax Side Effects

Some have reported serious allergic reactions to psyllium husk.  Check with your doctor if you have any allergy concerns, but other than that there isn’t anything that should cause serious side effects.

SliMax Policies

SliMax brags that it isn’t like “all those other products” that put you on an aut0-ship program.  While this may be true, their return policy isn’t exactly the greatest we’ve seen either. You may return only unopened and unused products and will only get  75% of the sales price back.  There is no guarantee of satisfaction and you must buy the product direct from the company to get even this return policy.

SliMax Lowest Price

The company sells SliMax direct for $37.50 but does apparently offer shipping. Considering that 3/5 of these ingredients are extremely common and cheap (psyllium, tarragon, bamboo) and the other two not really proven to contribute to weight loss, we’ll go ahead and say that this price is way too high.

Does SliMax Work?

Slim Total tends to emphasize that SliMax is “all natural”, and rightly so.  It does contain “natural” ingredients, but not all of which are naturally effective for weight loss, at least in the concentrations given.  We’re struggling to see how the company thought this would pass as an intriguing formula for anyone.  If you’ve done your research, and we have, you’ll want to pass on SliMax.
