The Science Behind nutraMetrix Transitions Carbohydrate Absorption Inhibitor

The breakdown of the ingredients in nutraMetrix Transitions Carbohydrate Absorption Inhibitor shows a formula that is rooted in scientific theory but may not have the dosage and balance necessary to really prove the theory (i.e. help you actually lose weight).  What you will notice is that most of the ingredients aren’t as focused on carbohydrate absorption as they are blood glucose levels. Two very different things.

  • Magnesium Citrate – the company claims correctly that magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and that it is necessary in hundreds of processes in the body. While this is good science, it doesn’t mean that you need more magnesium than you get in a healthy diet or that it helps you lose weight. Magnesium citrate is most typically used as a laxative.
  • Chromium – 100 mcg – Known to reduce blood sugar levels in those with type II diabetes, but usually in doses of at least twice as much per day.
  • Wheat Amylase Inhibitor – 10 mg – interferes with amylase, an enzyme excreted by the pancreas to digest carbohydrates in the small intestine.
  • Banaba Leaf Extract – 16 mg – May help to lower blood glucose levels, preventing spikes due to carb intake.
  • Vanadium – 50 mcg – According to the company, “a normal diet typically provides about 10-30 mcg of vanadium per day… this amount appears to be adequate for most healthy adults.”  So basically there is no evidence that extra vanadium would help.
  • Bitter Melon Extract – 100 mg – studies suggest it may reduce blood sugar levels, but most typically it is used as a digestive aid for upset stomach, constipation, etc.
