The Science Behind Lipotrophin-PM

Lipotrophin-PM is the sister product of (big surprise) Lipotrophin-AM, which is a weight loss product containing stimulants.  Lipotrophin-PM not only claims to NOT contain stimulants, it claims to be able to help you sleep better.  Additionally, it claims to help you lose weight while you do it.  There are some products out there which can come through reasonably well on these kinds of promises. However, it looks like you probably shouldn’t expect too much from Lipotrophin-PM.

With so many herbal products, there are any number of ingredients in the mix which have no application whatsoever to the issue at hand.  Surprisingly, this is actually a simple and fairly well-focused blend.

  • Green Tea – the most indisputably helpful ingredient in the bunch, green tea has been known for centuries to help promote a healthy metabolism. Only recently has it been shown effective because it is rich in antioxidants like polyphenols and catechins. As it is normally also a source of caffeine, we can only assume the caffeine has been removed for this “PM” version of the product.
  • Mucuna Pruriens – more commonly known as Cowhage, this plant contains a chemical called L-dopa (levodopa) which has been used to treat neurological disorders like Parkinson’s disease. For potentially increasing levels of dopamine, it is sometimes used to treat depression, but it is not clear that the herb is consistently successful in this respect.
  • Bacopa Monniera (Standardized To 40% Bacosides) – better known as the water hyssop or Brahmi, this is an herb which has the most evidence supporting it as a memory enhancer.  There is also some evidence that it may be useful in treating irritable bowel syndrome.
  • Banaba Extract (1% Corosolic Acid) –preliminary research has suggested this extract may help lower blood sugar for those suffering from type 2 diabetes, but this has yet to be confirmed in further studies.

As you likely have noticed, there isn’t a lot of strong evidence that this product will help you much with sleeping better.  Two of the ingredients do offer some promise of better neurological health, but are consistently used for insomnia. Though green tea is great, unless you have diabetes then this formula may not make a lot of sense.

Lipotrophin-PM Side Effects

Though no adverse side effects are reported, it should probably not be taken by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Lipotrophin-PM Policies

As this is sold mainly through distributors, the return policy will vary, but most places we’ve seen offer a refund for un-used products.

Lipotrophin-PM Lowest Price

At $20, we can think of a lot of products which are a worse value.  Given the more “exotic” ingredients this contains (not green tea, certainly), we can understand the pricing to some extent, but its not clear you’re getting a lot of potency for the money with Lipotrophin-PM. In any case, there is at least a 30-day money-back guarantee if you buy it from the manufacturer.

Does Lipotrophin-PM Work?

Many are attracted to a product like this because they are concerned with both issues – insomnia and weight loss.  While it is reasonably priced and looks to provide benefit for some in terms of weight loss, there just isn’t much here to suggest it will help you sleep a whole lot better.  We suggest treating both issues separately and with a little higher quality product.
