The Science Behind System-Six

As what might be called Irwin Naturals’ signature product, System-Six is a pretty well-thought-out weight loss product that claims six (big surprise) primary benefits, including

• Better endurance
• More energy
• Faster metabolism
• Better mood
• More antioxidants
• Increased carbohydrate breakdown

While you, like us, may find the first five of these well and good, it should be noted that increased carbohydrate breakdown actually might make it harder for you to lose weight.  As well, the last three of these don’t necessarily have a direct correlation with weight loss, though they may be good for your health in general.

As for the six benefits, you may realize that energy and metabolism are essentially the same effect.  Cayenne, yerba mate, bitter orange, guarana and cola nut  provide ways of boosting metabolism and energy (mainly from stimulant content).  As for endurance, amino acids such as carnitine and tyrosine may improve endurance.

Mood enhancement in System-Six may come from St. John’s wort, which has been used for years as a mild treatment for the symptoms of depression. 5-HTP may also play a role in this effect. Antioxidants can be found in the green tea, which is probably the most common source in weight loss products.  Carbohydrate breakdown may be due to a combination of these ingredients, but it isn’t clear what the company is referring to.

System-Six Side Effects

As this may contain a significant amount of caffeine between the ingredients, may cause some restlessness…which is rather counter-productive if you consider trying to relieve stress and improve mood.

Does System-Six Work?

If you’re used to taking some kind of St. John’s wort supplement for your mood and are also looking into dropping a few pounds, this appears to be an interesting approach.  It isn’t clear how the caffeine and synephrine may counteract the mood-enhancing herbs, but generally System-Six appears safe.  Honestly this does not appear to be nearly the most effective product you could get for the price.
