Green Tea
Green Tea has been known for its health benefits for thousands of years. In ancient China it was first discovered to provide comfort from many forms of ailments. More recent studies have shown that it prevents cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol levels, cardiovascular disease, infection, and impaired immune function. Green Tea is effective because it contains catechin polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This is a particularly powerful anti-oxidant. Safety of Green Tea
When compared to most dietary supplements, Green Tea is extremely safe. The only people who experience adverse side effects are the small percentage of the population who is highly sensitive to caffeine. It is true that Green Tea contains a small amount of caffeine. However, the caffeine content of Green Tea is significantly smaller than that of coffee. Clinical Examination of Green Tea
Many convincing studies have proven the long-held beliefs in Green Tea as a valuable component to human health, but the 1999 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition is of particular interest. They wanted to see if the claims of Green Tea having weight control power, beyond what would be produced by its caffeine content, could be verified. They compared results of testing 10 men in three different observation periods. The first involved the men taking Green Tea extract. In the second, they gave the men just the caffeine from the Green Tea. In the third the men took a placebo. They concluded unanimously that Green Tea has thermogenic properties that promote oxidation of fat cells beyond what its caffeine content could be responsible for.
