Green Tea

Green Tea has been known for its health benefits for thousands of years. In ancient China it was first discovered to provide comfort from many forms of ailments. More recent studies have shown that it prevents cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol levels, cardiovascular disease, infection, and impaired immune function. Green Tea is effective because it contains catechin polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This is a particularly powerful anti-oxidant. Not only does it help prevent the growth of cancer cells, it actually kills cancer cells while preserving healthy tissue. People who have abnormally high cholesterol levels should also look into Green Tea supplements, as it inhibits the formation of blood clots caused by high cholesterol levels. Europeans seem to live longer lives with fewer incidents of heart disease than Americans – even though they are traditionally heavy smokers and consume rich, fatty foods. Scientists found that consuming a reasonable amount of red wine daily counteracted these unhealthy habits. The beneficial agent in red wine is resveratrol, a polyphenol like those found in Green Tea. However, testing on Green Tea has revealed that its ECGC is twice as powerful as resveratrol! Other benefits of Green Tea include prevention of tooth decay. There are certainly many good reasons that it has been a popular health supplement for humans for so long!

Safety of Green Tea

When compared to most dietary supplements, Green Tea is extremely safe. The only people who experience adverse side effects are the small percentage of the population who is highly sensitive to caffeine. It is true that Green Tea contains a small amount of caffeine. However, the caffeine content of Green Tea is significantly smaller than that of coffee. If you are one of those people who have a distaste for coffee because it gives you jitters or makes your heart race, the minor caffeine content in Green Tea might have little or no effect on you. It is certainly worth a try, and a significant majority of people has found no adverse side effects in the long history of Green tea consumption.

Clinical Examination of Green Tea

Many convincing studies have proven the long-held beliefs in Green Tea as a valuable component to human health, but the 1999 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition is of particular interest. They wanted to see if the claims of Green Tea having weight control power, beyond what would be produced by its caffeine content, could be verified. They compared results of testing 10 men in three different observation periods. The first involved the men taking Green Tea extract. In the second, they gave the men just the caffeine from the Green Tea. In the third the men took a placebo. They concluded unanimously that Green Tea has thermogenic properties that promote oxidation of fat cells beyond what its caffeine content could be responsible for.

The Green Tea Solution

With all of this valuable information in mind, it is apparent that Green Tea should be considered on of the safest and most effective ingredients in dietary supplements. I highly suggest you give it a try in your weight loss program!
