Conjugated Linoleic Acid

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) is found in meat and dairy products and was first noticed in 1979 in an experiment that tested its anti-carcinogenic properties. Lab mice had CLA applied to their skin and scientists counted 20% fewer tumors on the CLA-treated mice. Its anti-cancer properties first boosted its popularity. Since then, Conjugated Linoleic Acid has been also noted for its body weight management effects. Particularly for people with hyperactive thyroid glands, CLA possesses great potential health benefits. It burns body fat by increasing metabolism and leads to better-toned muscles, while also reducing triglyceride and blood glucose levels. It is also recognized as an effective anti-oxidant, making it even more popular over recent years. Other attributes are that it enhances the immune system and reduces food-induced allergies. That is a lot of benefit to be gained from something that our bodies do not naturally produce. Since the human body does not produce its own CLA, it is up to us to get it from another source! Instead of relying on a high intake of beef and dairy fats, where CLA is found, it is much more beneficial to include it in its pure form, as an ingredient in dietary supplements.

Safety of Conjugated Linoleic Acid

In 2008 CLA was approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a safe ingredient for dietary supplements and given GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status. Unlike so many other dietary supplement ingredients, the FDA has approved the use of CLA. Think of the countless ingredients that do not undergo proper government inspection! Here you have one ingredient that even the government stands behind!

Clinical Studies

Over 30 clinical studies have been conducted to show the active weight loss assistance that CLA provides. In almost all experiments, subjects who took 3.4 grams per day of CLA, along with a regular diet and exercise program, burned more body fat than the control group who were not given CLA. This is one supplement ingredient that experts agree upon across the board. A well-reviewed experiment at the University of Wisconsin in Madison tested 71 people who went on a diet along with taking CLA. Once the test subjects stopped dieting, but continued to take CLA in recommended dosages, the subjects were found to be much more likely to gain muscle mass than body fat. Dr. Michael Pariza describes this effect of CLA as ensuring that tiny fat cells stay tiny and do not undergo normal growth.

Is this one right for you?

If you have tried other dietary ingredient combinations and been disappointed, why not try Conjugated Linoleic Acid? Aside from being FDA approved to function safely as a weight loss supplement, CLA has undergone rigorous double blind clinical studies. There is so much to gain and so much weight to lose! It is proven to increase your metabolic rate, decrease body fat (especially in the abdominal area), enhance muscle growth, lower cholesterol, reduce food-induced allergies, and enhance your immune system. I highly recommend CLA a staple in any weight loss program!
